The world may be at our fingertips, but it’s not always easy to decipher fact from fiction on our World Wide Web. Certain health care myths seem to persist, which can cause you unnecessary inconvenience, worry, and wasted energy.
In the hopes of helping you streamline your life, here are some “health” habits that you can safely ditch:
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day.
According to WebMD, research reveals that people stay healthy and hydrated by simply drinking when they’re thirsty. Other ways to stay hydrated include eating water-rich foods like soup, fruit, and veggies. Juice, tea and coffee count, too!
Avoiding the cold to reduce your risk of getting sick.
In fact, the exact opposite may be true. You’re more likely to get sick indoors, where germs are trapped and easily passed. What’s even more interesting, one study found that healthy men who spent several hours exposed to temps near freezing showed an increase in healthy, virus-fighting activity in their immune systems.
Eating breakfast to help you lose weight.
Some people do benefit from eating breakfast when they’re trying to lose weight. But if you don’t like to eat breakfast, there’s no reason to lose hope! You can still slim down! As reported in WebMD, a Cornell University study compared non-breakfast and breakfast eaters and found that the non-breakfast group ate about 400 fewer calories a day.
